Ilene Adler of Vantage Communications on Gender Equality in Technology Professions

  • We at DIDXchange met the Adlers at CTIA Wireless in 2008 and have stayed in touch via Facebook, Twitter and more conferences. Ilene and I discuss our professional history and when we began working in and with technology. Vantage Communications was started because of believing there was a better way to help market companies .

Allyson Kapin's article "Giving Tech a Bad Name" gave us much to explore in the areas of how men and women compare in technology.

Why is there a predominance of men in technology? Is it how we are taught as children for correct behavior among our gender? Being well-behaved isn't always the way to make things happen. Are we identifying with the victim level as women in our response to to these questions and to what we perceive as male chauvinism or mistreatment of women?

As women or men, we have to make it happen, take action, make waves, collaborate, pitch the best people to the world whether they are men or women.

At Vantage Communications, employees deal with technology day to day. About 98% of the women who join them do not have experience in technology, but the ones who persevere become part of an exciting, innovative company.

Ilene's mantra with the agency is "How can we add value?" The agency continually works to find new ways to achieve great results.
